Facing an emergency with your braces can be stressful, but knowing how to handle the situation can help alleviate anxiety and prevent further complications. Here's what to do in common emergency scenarios:

1. Broken Bracket or Wire:
- If a bracket becomes loose or a wire breaks, cover any protruding or sharp edges with orthodontic wax to prevent irritation to your cheeks and gums.
- Contact the clinic as soon as possible to schedule an appointment for repair. In the meantime, avoid touching or manipulating the broken bracket or wire to minimize discomfort.

2. Discomfort or Irritation:
- If you experience discomfort or irritation from your braces, rinse your mouth with warm saltwater to help soothe soreness and reduce inflammation.

- Take over the counter medications for pain such as Paracetamol or Ibuprofen (Always follow the recommended dosage instructions and consult with your healthcare provider if you have any concerns or medical conditions).

- Stick to soft foods that are easy to chew and won't put additional pressure on your braces or teeth. Opt for items like soups, mashed potatoes, yoghurt, smoothies, and scrambled eggs until any soreness or discomfort subsides.

- Apply orthodontic wax to any areas of the braces that are causing irritation, such as sharp or poking wires or rough brackets.

- Mould a small piece of wax into small ball and press it onto the bracket or wire that is causing discomfort to create a smooth surface.

3. Loose Appliance or Band:
- If an appliance or band becomes loose, contact your orthodontist immediately for an evaluation and repair.
- Avoid attempting to fix or reattach the appliance yourself, as this can lead to further complications.

4. Trauma or Injury:
- If you sustain trauma or injury to your mouth or braces during sports or other activities, seek immediate medical attention if necessary.
- Contact your dentist and the clinic as soon as possible for guidance on addressing any damage to your braces or teeth.

5. Swelling or Infection:
- If you experience swelling, redness, or signs of infection around your braces or gums, contact us or your dentist promptly for an evaluation and treatment.
- Rinse your mouth with warm saltwater and avoid consuming hard or sticky foods until you can see a dental professional.

6. Lost Spacer or Elastic:
- If you lose a spacer or elastic band, contact the clinic to discuss whether a replacement is necessary and when to schedule an appointment for replacement.
